Christopher's New Bed.

Christopher outgrew his toddler bed. Rather than buying a new one, I decided to build one a little more suited to his active lifestyle. What you see below is a 4 by 11 foot platform, suspended 5 feet off the ground. There is a ladder up the middle and an 8 foot slide coming down next to the ladder.

With the closet doors open and pillows agains the wall at the back of the closet, the kids make a pretty safe landing.

Wow - what a neat bed. You did an awesome job, Doug. I imagine that Christopher will really enjoy his bed. How did the first night (of using it) go?

Hey Doug and family! It's your cousin, Jaime. I was just putting together a drawing for a similar, yet moveable loft type bed for the girls. I don't like toys in the girls bedroom, but with lack of another spot to put them, that's where they will end up. I am building one about 4 foot off the ground, supported by 4x4 posts, and built for a full size bed. The underneath is where their toy shelves and bins will go. Alli has already planned her "clubhouse" complete with sheets to close it off for "camping". This is going to be a big undertaking, but I have set my mind to do it. Now if I can only get my ideas into a schematic so that I can properly plan and buy lumber, without breaking the budget.

I would love to see the plans for your bed!

Doug told me you didn't need a plan. Just lumber and nails.

I love your description of the landing as being "pretty safe". The look on your children's faces says it all. Put this one in the win column.

Thanks for the comments. Christopher is sleeping in it just as well as he did his other bed (which means an occasional punishment for too many trips to get "wawa").
I don't have plans, I just sort of made it up. If anyone is really interested, I can send them detailed photos and measurements.
One last things, so far we have no reported injuries.

Nice job Doug.
This transition from his previous cave bed is a great childrens version of going from the outhouse to the penthouse.
